Lip filler: 0.5ml or 1ml, and how to choose

The short answer. At Skinfolk, lip filler at Ombersley is £150 for 0.5ml and £290 for 1ml, and at Barnt Green it is £160 for 0.5ml and from £295 for 1ml. A Lip Booster, the smallest change we offer, is £110 at Ombersley. How much you need is decided at consultation, and because lips are the area people are most careful about, we would rather place a little and see you again.

The question we hear most about lips is how much filler you need. The honest answer is that it depends on your lips and on what you want to change, but it helps to know what the amounts are for before you come in.

What lip filler is

Lip filler is a hyaluronic acid gel placed in the lips to restore volume and give the border its edge again, so the lip reads fuller and better defined while the rest of the face is left alone. Hyaluronic acid is the same material used across our dermal filler treatments, and it can be taken away again.

The options and prices

At Skinfolk Ombersley:

  • Lip Booster, 30 minutes, £110, the smallest change we offer
  • Lip filler 0.5ml, 30 minutes, £150
  • Lip filler 1ml, 30 minutes, £290
  • Dissolving unwanted filler, 30 minutes, £100

At Skinfolk Barnt Green, filler is priced by volume: £160 for 0.5ml, from £295 for 1ml and £445 for the 2ml package.

When 0.5ml is the right start

Half a millilitre is a small amount, and that is its point. It suits lips that have lost a little volume or definition, a first treatment where you want to see how your lips take filler, and anyone who wants a proportionate change rather than an obvious one. It is also why 0.5ml sits on the list alongside 1ml. We would rather place a little and see you at review than place too much on the day.

When 1ml makes sense

A full millilitre suits lips that have lost more volume, a border that has softened considerably, or lips that sit unevenly, where one side or one lip carries more than the other. It is still placed in small amounts, with the shape checked as we go rather than at the end.

The Lip Booster

If you want the lightest possible change, the Lip Booster at £110 is on the same treatment list. Which of the two suits you is decided at consultation once we have seen your lips.

When lip filler is not the answer

Lines around the mouth that come from movement rather than lost volume are better treated another way, often with anti-wrinkle injections, where a lip flip lets the upper lip roll gently outward. Lip filler is not offered in pregnancy or while breastfeeding, or where there is infection or inflamed skin on or around the lips. And if the result you want is one your lips will not hold, we will tell you at consultation.

What happens on the day

Your consultation looks at your concerns, your facial anatomy and your goals, and only then is anything injected. The lips are cleansed and the filler is placed in small amounts. Treatments typically take 15 to 30 minutes with minimal downtime, and how the lips settle over the following days is talked through before you leave. A review appointment is offered so we can see how the treatment has settled.

If you have had filler elsewhere

Because it is hyaluronic acid, filler can be dissolved. At Ombersley dissolving unwanted filler is £100 for 30 minutes, whether the filler was placed at Skinfolk or somewhere else.

At Ombersley, lip filler is performed by Dr Chloë or her sister Dr Eloise, and at Barnt Green by Dr Chloë. Our other filler treatments, for the chin, the jaw and the non-surgical nose job, each have their own page.
