What they are
Polynucleotides are purified DNA taken from salmon, which is where the salmon sperm name comes from, and you will also see them written as PDRN. Placed into the skin, they are used to encourage cell repair, collagen production and skin regeneration. They do not fill anything, so the change comes from the quality of the skin itself.
We use them in two ways. Ameela is a polynucleotide injected by Dr Chloë or Dr Eloise, most often under the eyes. The Salmon Sperm Facial carries PDRN into the skin across the face through precision microneedling. Both are a good option for sensitive skin and for anyone who wants their treatment built on natural ingredients.

When it is not the answer
- A deep hollow where volume has been lost, which tear trough filler treats, and polynucleotides can be combined with it (see dermal fillers)
- Lines that move with the face, which anti-wrinkle injections treat instead
- Loss of firmness along the jaw and neck, where HIFU for face and neck works at the depth the face is supported
- Deeper scarring, where Morpheus 8 works lower down

What happens on the day
Your consultation covers what you want to change, what your skin has had before and your medical history, and whether Ameela injections, the Salmon Sperm Facial or a combination is the better plan.
For Ameela, the polynucleotide is placed into the skin with fine injections, most often under the eyes, in a 30 minute appointment. For the Salmon Sperm Facial the skin is cleansed and prepared, then microneedling carries the PDRN into it, also in 30 minutes.
Polynucleotides work through the skin's own repair, so the change builds over the weeks that follow and they are planned as a course. Our own Dr Eloise had three treatments two weeks apart to brighten her under eyes, treat dark circles, reduce puffiness and soften fine lines, and her before and after is on our injectables page. Are polynucleotides good for dark circles?
Dark circles, puffiness and fine lines under the eyes are why most people ask us about them, and they are what Dr Eloise treated in her own before and after. Where the hollow comes from lost volume, we may suggest combining them with tear trough filler.
What is the difference between Ameela and the Salmon Sperm Facial?
Both use polynucleotides. Ameela is injected, most often under the eyes. The Salmon Sperm Facial uses microneedling to carry PDRN into the skin across the face, and it is on our facials page as well as here.
