The short answer. They answer three different problems. Profhilo hydrates the skin and improves its firmness across an area. Sculptra rebuilds volume that has been lost by encouraging your own collagen, gradually, with results that can last two to three years. Polynucleotides encourage the skin to repair itself and are used most often under the eyes. Profhilo and Ameela are £275 and Sculptra is £495 a session, at both Skinfolk clinics.
None of these three is a filler in the usual sense. None of them shapes a lip or a jaw. Each improves the skin itself, which is why they are so often confused. The quickest way to choose is to start with what you see in the mirror.
If your skin looks dull, dry or crepey: Profhilo
Profhilo is hyaluronic acid, the substance your skin uses to hold water, in a blend the manufacturer calls NAHYCO. It is placed at a small number of points and spreads evenly under the skin, so it hydrates a whole area rather than filling one line, and it works on the collagen and elastin we all make less of after 25. The lift it gives is subtle and looks like your own skin.
It is used on the face, the neck and the hands, and it is usually given as two treatments about four weeks apart. Profhilo Structura is its partner for deeper work, placed in the fat layer at the sides of the face to restore support.
- Profhilo, 30 minutes, £275 at both clinics
- Profhilo, two areas, £450 at Ombersley
- Profhilo Structura, 45 minutes, £275 at Ombersley
If your face has lost volume: Sculptra
Sculptra is a biostimulator. It encourages your skin to regenerate its own collagen, so volume that has gone from the cheeks and midface comes back gradually rather than on the day. Because it works through your own renewal process the change is progressive, it is planned as a course, and the result can last two to three years.
- Sculptra, 60 minutes, £495 a session at both clinics
If the under eyes look tired, dark or puffy: polynucleotides
Polynucleotides are purified DNA taken from salmon, which is where the salmon sperm name comes from, and you will also see them written as PDRN. Placed into the skin they encourage cell repair, collagen production and regeneration. They add no volume, so the change is brighter, plumper, smoother skin rather than a filled look, and they suit sensitive skin.
Ameela is the polynucleotide we inject, most often under the eyes. Our own Dr Eloise had three treatments two weeks apart to brighten her under eyes, and her before and after is on our injectables page.
- Ameela, 30 minutes, £275 at both clinics
- Salmon Sperm Facial, polynucleotides with microneedling, 30 minutes, £150 at Ombersley
- At Barnt Green, a polynucleotide infusion can be added to microneedling for £50
When none of them is the answer
Lines that move with the face are treated with anti-wrinkle injections. A feature you want shaped straight away, such as the lips, chin or jaw, is dermal filler. Loose skin along the jaw and neck that needs lifting is HIFU or Morpheus 8. A deep hollow under the eye where volume has gone may need tear trough filler, which polynucleotides can be combined with. And significant loose skin is a surgical question, which we will tell you if it applies.
The combinations
Because they do different things, these treatments are often planned together. At Ombersley, Ameela under the eyes with Profhilo on the face is £450. At Barnt Green, Smooth and Glow is three areas of anti-wrinkle injections with Profhilo and Smooth and Firm is three areas with Ameela, each £485. Our treatment packages include Profhilo twice, because it is usually given in two sessions.
Who carries them out
All three are injectable treatments. At Ombersley they are performed by Dr Chloë or her sister Dr Eloise, and at Barnt Green by Dr Chloë. Which one you need, or whether you need two, is decided at consultation once we have looked at your skin and heard what bothers you.

Questions we are asked
What is the difference between Profhilo and Sculptra?
Profhilo is hyaluronic acid that spreads under the skin to hydrate it and improve firmness across an area. Sculptra is a biostimulator that encourages your skin to rebuild collagen and restores volume that has been lost, gradually, over months.
Are polynucleotides a filler?
No. Polynucleotides are purified salmon DNA, also called PDRN, used to encourage cell repair and collagen production. They add no volume, so the change is in the quality of the skin itself.
How much do they cost at Skinfolk?
Profhilo is £275, Sculptra is £495 a session and Ameela polynucleotide injections are £275. At Ombersley the Salmon Sperm Facial, polynucleotides with microneedling, is £150.
Can they be combined?
Yes, and they often are. Ameela under the eyes with Profhilo on the face is £450 at Ombersley. Which combination suits your skin is agreed at consultation.
How long does Sculptra last?
The result can last two to three years. It builds over the months after treatment rather than showing on the day.
