Dull and tired skin in Droitwich

Dull skin is skin that has stopped reflecting light evenly, usually because dead cells have built up on the surface, the skin is short of water, or the pores are congested. At Skinfolk in Droitwich it is treated with the HydraFacial from £72, the Obagi Blue Radiance Peel at £120 and Dermalux LED light therapy at £40.

What it is

Dull skin is a description rather than a diagnosis. Healthy skin reflects light evenly, so it reads bright. When the surface is covered in dead cells, short of water or blocked, light scatters instead of bouncing back, and the face looks tired even when nothing else about it has changed.

Dry and dehydrated are not the same thing, and the difference matters. Dry skin makes too little oil. Dehydrated skin is short of water, and it happens on oily skin as readily as on dry, which is why a richer moisturiser on its own so often changes nothing.

The cause decides the treatment. A build up on the surface is lifted away. Skin short of water is given something that holds water in it. Congestion is cleared out of the pores. Which of the three is behind your skin, and whether it is more than one of them, is agreed at your consultation before anything is booked in.

Why skin looks dull

Skin loses its brightness for ordinary reasons, and usually more than one of them at once.

  • A build up of dead cells on the surface, which scatters light instead of reflecting it
  • Dehydration, which is too little water held in the skin rather than too little oil
  • Congestion and blocked pores, so the surface is uneven as well as flat
  • Sun damage and uneven colour, which is covered on our pigmentation and melasma page
  • Short sleep, stress, central heating and air conditioning, all of which show on the face before anywhere else
  • A routine that is not working for your skin, either too strong for it or not doing enough

When a facial is the answer

  • Skin that looks flat and tired however much sleep you have had
  • A rough, uneven surface and pores that look larger than they did
  • Make up that sits on top of the skin rather than settling into it
  • An event coming up and no time for downtime
  • Skin that has had nothing done for it in a long while

When something else is the answer

If a facial is not the right answer for you, we will say so at consultation and suggest what is.

How it is treated at Skinfolk

It starts with a consultation. We look at the surface and the texture, what your skin already has on it, how much water it is holding, what your routine is doing and anything in your medical history we need to know, and only then is anything booked in.

The HydraFacial is where we usually start, because it does the three things dull skin needs in one appointment. It cleanses and exfoliates, lifts congestion out of the pores with gentle suction rather than squeezing, then floods the skin with antioxidants and hyaluronic acid. The Express is 30 minutes at £72 and the Skinfolk HydraFacial is 60 minutes at £99, with no downtime either way.

The Obagi Blue Radiance Peel is the one we add where the surface needs lifting away rather than hydrating, at £120 for 30 minutes, and microneedling is the choice where texture sits alongside the dullness, at £80 for a single session. Dermalux LED light therapy at £40 and exosomes at £40 are the enhancements we add to a facial where the skin needs the extra help recovering.

Where lost firmness is part of what makes a face look tired, a HydraFacial is combined with a device that works deeper: HydraTite pairs it with Exilis radiofrequency at £110 for 90 minutes, Glow and Glazed pairs it with lower face HIFU at £370 for 75 minutes, and Get Glass Skin pairs it with Morpheus 8 and LED light at £599 for 75 minutes. Whatever is done in clinic holds better alongside a routine that suits your skin, and Obagi is one of the ranges we stock.

Dull skin questions

What causes dull skin?

Three things, usually together. A build up of dead cells on the surface, which scatters light rather than reflecting it. Too little water held in the skin, which is dehydration and is not the same as dryness. Congestion in the pores, which flattens the texture as well as the glow. Sun damage, short sleep, stress and dry indoor air all make each of them worse.

How is dull skin treated at Skinfolk?

With a HydraFacial first, because it cleanses, exfoliates and hydrates in one appointment and lifts congestion out without harsh extractions. With the Obagi Blue Radiance Peel where the surface needs lifting away. With microneedling where texture sits alongside the dullness. Which of them you need is agreed at consultation before anything is booked in.

How much does it cost?

The HydraFacial Express is £72 for 30 minutes and the Skinfolk HydraFacial is £99 for 60 minutes. The Obagi Radiance Peel is £120 for 30 minutes, a single microneedling session is £80, and Dermalux LED light therapy and exosomes are £40 each. Every price we publish is on our treatment pricing page.

What is the difference between dry and dehydrated skin?

Dry skin makes too little oil, so it feels tight and flaky and wants something richer. Dehydrated skin is short of water, so it looks flat and the fine lines read more clearly, and it happens on oily skin too. Telling them apart is part of the consultation, because the answer to one is not the answer to the other.

How quickly will my skin look brighter?

A HydraFacial is the treatment we suggest when there is an event, because the glow shows as soon as you leave and there is no downtime. A peel works on the surface across the days that follow. Where the dullness has built up over years, it is a course rather than one appointment, and when to come back is agreed with you rather than booked in advance.

Can I have a facial before an event?

Yes, and it is one of the reasons people book one. The HydraFacial has no downtime and no irritation, so it suits the week of a wedding or a holiday. If your plan involves a peel or microneedling, we will tell you at consultation how much time to leave before the day.

Where can I have treatment for dull skin?

At our Ombersley clinic, at The Paddocks, Woodhall Lane, Ombersley, Uphampton, Droitwich WR9 0JR. At our Barnt Green clinic, opening on 26 October 2026 at 42 Hewell Lane, Barnt Green, Worcestershire B45 8NF: The Skinfolk SOS facial, our signature facial tailored to your skin on the day, is £120, or £95 a month as a rolling membership. Microneedling is from £150. We welcome clients from Droitwich Spa, Worcester, Bromsgrove and across Worcestershire.
